Our First Family Easter Celebration

Easter has always been a memorable event for me growing up. I remembered looking forward for this long weekend growing up in Tonga. Schools, government industries, businesses, and stores closed down from Friday till Tuesday. One would find different parades in most streets in Tonga. Most churches would march on the roads and put on a skit or some kind of a play demonstrating the last few days of Jesus Christ here on earth. Who ever played the Savior would carried a cross and one would act as if he was beating the Savior with the whip. So, they did the whole 9 yards. Most LDS families would stand on the streets and watch. The feast was another event. Most families cooked up a big feast in celebration of this holiday and you would also find tonnes of people at the beaches. Sports such as volleyball, rugby, and tennis was also played in most parks or at the beaches.

Well, since I have been away from Tonga, my celebration of this special holiday is usually something like this. I work on Friday. Saturday, I run errands and do shopping for the upcoming week and Sunday I attend church and enjoy the talks (usually on the Savior) and the lessons and then I come home. And, I return to work on Monday. I usually don't do any egg hunting or any chocolate giving.

However, this year I decided to join the "American" way of celebrating Easter. I talked to Danny and we decided that we would dye eggs with bubba. So, I only work for for an hour or two on Friday. I came home and we all went to Walmart to go buy what we needed. We got some eggs, dye, different variety of chocolates, plastic eggs, two baskets for bubba, and different little things to decorate the baskets with.

We got home, and I quickly went to work. I started with putting little things on the plastic eggs. Then, I decorated bubba's basket and put all the things I needed to put in there. By the time I was done, Danny and Malik had long gone so I layed down to take a quick little power-nap with them. Our power nap turned into a "long power-nap" of like 3 hours :).

The next day (Saturday) I woke up early and looked outside to see if I could go and hide a couple of eggs for Malik. But the grass was wet and it was raining and windy. So in my attempt to not waste my whole preparation, I decided to hide the eggs in our living room and kitchen. Soon, Malik woke up and I took him to his room and gave him his little "spider man" basket and told him to go pick up the eggs. It was so cute, because he was so happy and smiling as he was running around our little living room trying to pick up all the eggs he could. Soon enough he learned that there was something inside the eggs so he would pick up one cracked it open by throwing it on the wall then shoveled everything in his mouth and repeat this process over and over again. After he picked all the eggs, he emptied his little basket then picked them up again. It was so fun to watch him.

Sunday

Because Church started at 9am, I didn't have time to give Malik his cute little easter basket that I had put together. But after church, we came home and I gave him his basket. He was so thrilled with it but he soon looked around to pick up eggs. So I ran outside and quickly threw a couple of eggs on the front lawn (luckily it was a nice day outside).

As we got outside, Malik noticed Kaylene and her parents (Leki & Candice) just gotten home and walked straight to go see his little friend, Kaylene. We chatted for a bit before heading to pick up eggs.

I truly have to say that I really enjoy this Easter! Egg hunting was fun! Malik had a blast picking eggs in the house and outside and Danny and I both enjoyed our easter together as a family. It was the best easter! May be next year we will dye eggs, I will just have to make sure that I put the egg dye safely in our storange :).
