I know this is so BEHIND but I wanted to write a little bit (will see about that) about my baby 1st birthday. This entry is mostly for me (a journal entry) so if you aren't interested on details skip ahead... I want to cover most of the details so that I can make a little book for Malik someday.
Danny and I had decided that we weren't going to do anything other than just take Malik out for a treat or something. It wasn't because we didn't love our son it was because we think he is way too little to remember anything we put on for his 1st birthday. However, conference weekend gave us a chance to spend more time at home and with Malik and as a result of that we decided we were going to have a small little birthday party for him. We started brainstorming some ideas. Danny came up with the idea of renting some blow up toys and have a barbecue and invited his friends to come. That was a cool idea until we found out that it would cost $100 a day and the weather would be too cold for the kids to be outside. My idea was to have a movie night because it would be much cheaper than the "blow up" idea. So we settled with the movie night idea. We wanted to have his little invitation as the movie ticket and the movie will be his slideshow. We also thought of drive-in movie idea where we would have the kids bring empty boxes for the "cars." And we both agreed that we would order him and ice-cream cake for his birthday cake.
Because we only have few days to go I went ahead and sent out an email to all of Malik's littel friends.

Hello Everyone,
I am still working on the birthday invitation but I wanted to give you the heads up that we are having a little birthday party for Malik's first birthday this Friday (October 10th, 2008) from 5pm - 8pm at Danny's parents house in Lindon, 635 East Center St.
Please, let me know if you can make it so that we know how many are going to attend. The theme is "Drive-in Movie Night." I will drop off your invitation later this week with more details.
Thank You,
Vika & Danny

We wanted the parents to know so that they can plan on it and it was also for us to get a count of how many people that could come. so within minutes I got some confirmation emails from friends and families that they would be there.
The next day I went in to work and started on the little invitations. The final product turned out really cute. Thanks to my boss for letting me do it at work and thanks to coworkers for their inputs. While I finished up the invitations at work, Danny was working on the menu and the guest list. The whole week was spent on getting things ready for the party. But the hard part was putting the slideshow together. Between work, school, family responsibilities, and planning, I couldn't seee any free time on my part to do the slideshow. So I asked our good friend and neighbor (Candice) to help. My part was getting all of Malik's pictures and put them together and Candice puts the slideshow together for us which we were so grateful for because it freed us to focus on other things for the party.
Even though Danny and I planned to have Malik's little birthday party small it was still a bit stressful. The invitation was done quickly and getting the food together but the slideshow took more time than we anticipated on. For those few days before the party, I average 2-3 hours of sleep per night. And Candice stayed up the night before the party trying to throw the slideshow together.
After all the stress and no sleep, I have to say that it was a cute little party and I am so thankful and appreciative to all who helped out.
p.s I will write another entry about the actual party when I have more time and post up the slideshow...(it's midterm now I have to go back and study :(
